Breakfast Hours
We serve free breakfast every day from 8:00 - 8:25. It is very important that your child is here during that time if he/she wants to eat. School begins at 8:30 and we expect the students in their classrooms by that time.
In the event of a delay, we do not serve breakfast. Thank you.
Tutors
Since October, we have been very fortunate to have tutors working in Grade 3. Ms. Carol Perkins is working with Ms. Bennett’s class. Ms. Peggy Hart is working with Mrs. Tripp’s class. Our tutors are licensed teachers who are working with children needing support in reading and math. This is a great opportunity for our students as we prepare for MCAS.
Box Top News
Congratulations to Mrs. Bell and Ms. Lambert’s classes for winning the November “Box Top challenge. Don’t forget that we collect box tops each month and the 2 classes bringing in the most for that month receive a special snack from our PTO. So please keep bringing in your boxtops. You are doing an amazing job!!!!
Also for the grown-ups….. Don’t forget to register online at www.boxtops4education.com. While you’re there be sure to check out the marketplace and the reading room, where up to 15% of your purchases comes back to our school.
Wish List for Classrooms
With the flu/cold season now upon us, we are in need of tissues and Clorox wipes (or anything similar) to keep the germs away. If you can send in either of these items to your child’s classroom, we would be very appreciative. We have not been able to keep up with the demand for these items in the last month, so your donations will be helpful.
Thank you.
Nothing is More Important Than A Good Education
Attendance is important and here at Federal Street School we are encouraging our students to be here on time every day. Each month at our All School Meeting we hand out certificates to all the students with perfect attendance. Children need to be on time each day to earn this award. The next meeting is Friday, December 21st and at that time we will honor those children who came to school on time each day in December. Keep up the good work!

Arrival/Dismissal Procedures for 2012-13 School Year
The school buses drop children off on Franklin Street behind the school. Buses will be met by a staff member and walked into school or to the playground.
Morning Drive-through Drop-Offs in Front of Federal Street School
- The driveway in front of the school is a parent drop off lane. No parent drop-offs in the parking lot.
- Drivers form a single line along the curb in front of the school and remain at the wheel. This is a moving lane of traffic. Drivers of vehicles in this line must not leave the driver's seat. Drivers who need to exit the car to help unload children please do not enter this lane; instead, park elsewhere off school grounds. Free town parking is available on Pleasant Street behind the Christian Science Church.
- Cars will move to the front of the line and only children in the first few cars will disembark. We will post an orange cone to designate the front of the line up.
- Children will exit quickly on the school side. Please limit your good-byes in the line-up to help us keep things moving along quickly. Please teach your children to close car doors with hands and fingers well away from closing doors. Children exit vehicles only when they are fully stopped.
- If you are behind the crosswalk please do not let children out of the car. Wait until you reach the front of the line-up. The line will move faster if you do this.
- A school monitor will assist with arrival in front of the school from 8:00 to 8:30.
Dismissal Procedures for 2012-13
- Buses line up in front of the school and children line up in the gym where they are marked present and then guided to the buses by school staff.
- All walkers exit the back of the school and parents wait for them there. Parents find parking spaces on Franklin Street or neighboring parking lots. Walkers who are not met by parents must still exit by the doors at the back of the building. Please, no double parking in the school parking lot. It prevents staff from leaving work.
- Children waiting outside for families or friends must wait safely near the back door. There is no staff supervision for the play structure and playground after school.
Reminder: Always enter and exit the school walking on crosswalks and sidewalks
