This week’s Parent Update will include:
- Upcoming Events
- FY24 Budget
The Film and Art Festival will be held on Thursday, May 11th, 6:30 pm at Greenfield High School. It will feature art from grade 4 students across the district as well as art and films from the middle and high schools. The culinary program at GHS will be providing treats!
The last day of school as of today is June 22. That will be an early dismissal for students and staff.
For anyone interested, the deadline is fast approaching to order a 2023 yearbook. In addition to ordering a book, you can also celebrate your students’ milestones by purchasing a Recognition Ad. Ads start at $75. To order, please go to 2023 YEARBOOK. You will be directed to the Green Wave ordering page once you enter the school name (Greenfield High School) and state (Massachusetts). Help make this year’s yearbook a success. The deadline is May 11th. Thank you!
The discussion about the FY24 budget continues at the Ways and Means meetings. Amy Proietti, Andy Paquette and I presented information about the School Budget at the April 24th meeting. A GPS budget subcommittee meeting was also held on Thursday, April 27th and that recording will be available on the GCTV website if anyone would like the detailed information.
As I stated in both of those meetings, the School Committee is currently planning to use about $2 million in grant funding to keep staff positions for next year’s budget. Unfortunately, that grant funding will not be available for the following year – FY25. The current discussion about budget reductions is very challenging but given the current situation, the following year could be even more challenging.
I know families and community members have been advocating with the City Council for more funds for the schools. Once the City Council and Mayor have finalized their budget discussions, the School Committee will need to discuss final decisions about the FY24 budget.
Please reach out with any questions you may have about the school budget.
