This week’s Parent Update includes:
- Upcoming Events
- Volunteer Opportunity
- Superintendent’s Award
- Redistricting Update
Just a reminder that next week begins our Winter Break. Students and staff in grades K – 12 have an early release on Thursday, December 21 and preschool students have no school. All schools resume classes on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
Families are reminded to check the Family Resources page of the website for ideas of things to do with children during the break. Title I also provides students K-7 with a Hot Cocoa Winter Break Challenge full of fun activities to do together. Prizes will be awarded after the break.
Because of the short week next week, I am not planning to send a Parent Update next week.
We are interested in having volunteers help out in our elementary libraries. Any amount of time would be helpful to reshelve books, organize materials, and other similar activities. Please contact Lauren Rice in the Superintendent’s Office to complete the volunteer process or to express your interest.
I am very pleased to share that Maree- Ellis Benitez was presented with the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Academic Excellence Award for Greenfield. Ellis is currently our top-ranked senior, having taken a very rigorous course load, engaged in many extracurricular activities, and is President of our National Honor Society. Please join me in congratulating Ellis for this award.
Last night, the School Committee made three votes: a) new intradistrict choice stops as of the 2024-25 school year at all elementary schools; b) current intradistrict choice students remain at their choice schools until grade progression into the middle school; and c) adopt Option 2B of the redistricting plan for the 2025-2026 academic year, which will result in grade 5 moving to our elementary schools and grade 8 moving to Greenfield Middle School. A more detailed summary of these decisions will be created, and posted to the website, and an Update will be sent to families that will outline the various elements of the plan in a more detailed way. Thank you to the staff and community members who shared their ideas and questions throughout this process.
I wish everyone a happy and relaxing winter break.
