Home 9 Superintendent Updates 9 Parent Update – April 5, 2024

This week’s Parent Update includes:

  • Eclipse in April
  • School Committee Seat
  • Earthquake Reported

ECLIPSE IN APRIL

There will be a solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, which will be experienced as a partial eclipse in Massachusetts.  The timing of the eclipse will coincide with our elementary dismissal, just after 3 pm.  There are no changes to our regular school day.

Because student safety is our priority, all of our buildings have presented students with safety information about the eclipse and all students and staff will be provided with appropriately rated eclipse glasses.  These glasses will be provided to students at dismissal on Monday.

Please remind your students about the importance of following the safety information provided.  Parents and guardians have the option of dismissing elementary students so they may supervise their children directly during the eclipse.  Please communicate with your child’s school if you intend to dismiss students early.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE SEAT

The Greenfield School Committee is seeking letters of interest from community members who may wish to serve on the School Committee.  This seat would fill the remainder of the term following the resignation of Member Amy Prioetti.  Please forward any letters of interest to Chair Glenn Johnson-Mussad at glejoh1@gpsk12.org.  The School Committee anticipates filling the seat at their regularly scheduled meeting on April 10, 2024, so please forward any letters by the end of the day on April 9. 2024.

EARTHQUAKE

Earlier today, we felt some shaking in our schools!  WWLP has reported that there was a 4.8 magnitude earthquake centered in northwestern New Jersey.  There are no reports of injury or damage in any of our schools.

Take care and enjoy the warmer weather this weekend!

Christine
